Hanukkah Card

This card doubles as a gift -- there's a dreidel game inside for kids to play with their friends.

Assembling the CardWhat You Need:

It's a card, it's a game -- it's both!

  • Cerulean-blue stamp pad
  • 80-pound watercolor paper
  • Rubber stamps of dreidel and Hanukkah greeting (or print out the Dreidel symbols and color them, then cut them out and glue them onto the card)
  • Ruler
  • Pencil
  • Scissors
  • Paper fastener
  • Fine-tip blue and black markers
  • Envelope to fit card (about 4-3/4 x 5-3/4 inches)

Instructions:

The inside of the card.

1. Make card. Cut the paper to 5-1/2 x 9 inches and fold it in half to make 4-1/2 x 5-1/2-inch card. Referring to the photo for help, stamp the front of the card with the Hanukkah and dreidel stamps. Let the ink dry about 10 minutes.

2. Decorate border. Use the fine-tip markers and a ruler to draw a double border around the front of the card.

3. Make "game board." On the inside of the card, copy the Hebrew symbols (on next page) drawing one symbol on each edge of the card as shown, or cut out our symbols on the next page and color them. Draw a border around the "game board."

4. Make and attach the spinner. Stamp the dreidel image on a scrap of watercolor paper, and cut the arrow shape around it. To find the center of the game board, measure the width and divide it in half; do the same for the length. Cut a small hole in the center and attach the spinner with the paper fastener. Attach the fastener loosely enough to allow the spinner to move when you flick it with your fingers.
