• Freezer paper
• Felt: 5/8 yard each of black and orange
• Ribbon: 3 1/2 yards each of polka-dot and striped, and 2 yards of checked
• Fusible webbing: 1/2- and 1/4-inch wide
• Spray adhesive
• 1-1/4-inch-wide black rickrack trim
• Ivory card stock
• 4-inch-long tassel

Download Cone Pattern

1. Trace the outline of the cone pattern twice onto the dull side of freezer paper.
2. Iron the paper pattern shiny side down onto the black and orange felt; cut out.
3. Following the manufacturer's instructions, fuse the webbing to the polka-dot and striped ribbons.
4. Arrange the ribbons on the orange felt and fuse in place. Lightly spray the black felt cutout with adhesive.
5. Lay the orange felt cutout on top, and stitch the ribbons in place. Cut the checked hanging ribbon into 22-inch, 23-inch, and 24-inch lengths.
6. Leaving 1-inch spaces, sandwich the ribbon ends between the two layers of felt and pin in place on the cone; put the shortest pieces in the center. Sew the ribbons in place.
7. Pin the black rickrack along the top edge of the cone and sew in place. With wrong sides together, fold the cone in half lengthwise and pin the back seam together, matching edges.
8. Using a 1/4-inch seam allowance, sew from top to bottom through all layers.
9. On your computer, create a 2-1/2-inch-diameter circle using a 3-point line width. (For the number 31, we used American Typewriter Regular font in a 125-point size.) Print two medallions on ivory card stock.
10. Cut out the circles and spray the back sides with adhesive.
11. Sandwich an 8-inch loop of ribbon between the medallions. With a needle and thread, tack the medallion ribbons and the tassel to the cone.
