What You Need:

Give your creativity free reign.

  • Wire cutters
  • Ruler
  • 18-gauge copper wire
  • Porch globe with a 3-inch opening for hanging votive
  • Needle-nose pliers
  • Assorted beads
  • Washable marker
  • Pencil
  • Key ring
  • 4 2-inch-long head pins
  • Glass container for candleholder

1. Cut a 13-inch length of copper wire to go around the neck of the globe. Using round-nose pliers, bend one end of the wire into a small loop. String enough beads on the wire to wrap the neck of the globe. 2. Cut three 32-inch lengths of wire. Mark 9 inches from one end of each wire using a washable marker. Using round-nose pliers, coil the wire from the end to the mark. Make another mark 2 inches from the coil. From this mark, wrap the remaining wire around a pencil to make a loosely twisted 5-1/2-inch long coil. Do not twist the complete length of wire. 3. Cut another 13-inch length of wire. Wrap the straight 2-inch area of each coiled wire length around this piece of wire, wrapping them just below the 2-inch mark. You may need to use needle-nose pliers to tightly wrap the wire. Space the coiled wires evenly around the 13-inch length of wire; then wrap the assembled piece around the neck of the globe. Twist the ends together using needle-nose pliers. 4. Hold the straight ends of the three hanger wires together, thread them through the key ring, and then bend them downward. Cut a 3-inch piece of wire and wrap it around the wire hanger assembly just below the key ring. Coil the straight wire ends using the round-nose pliers. 5. Wrap the beaded wire around the neck of the globe, twisting the wire ends together. Cut away any excess wire, and neatly bend under the ends. 6. String three head pins with beads, leaving them unbeaded for at least 3/4 inch, and trim away any excess wire. Bend the unbeaded wire into a loop using the round-nose pliers. Before closing the loop, slip it over the copper coil.
