Eggs-ceptional Party Favors

Use seeds from your spice rack to decorate Styrofoam eggs for springtime party favors or place-card holders.

What You Need:

Use potpourri as an easy decorating
option.

  • Sesame or fennel seeds
  • Disposable bowl
  • 2-inch-long Styrofoam egg
  • Toothpicks and crafts sticks
  • Creatively Yours Clear Silicone glue from Loctite
  • 12 to 24 inches of natural-color MPR Raffia Paper Ribbon
  • Hotmelt adhesive
  • 3-1/2- to 4-inch-diameter woven twig bird's nest
  • Assorted dried materials, such as Nigella orientalis seedpods, canella berries, dudinea, Spanish moss, mushrooms, and black lichen
  • Clear acrylic spray varnish

Instructions:

1. Fill the disposable bowl with sesame or fennel seeds. Insert a toothpick into one end of the egg to use as a handle, and apply a 1/8-inch-thick coat of silicone glue to the egg with a crafts stick. Place the glue-covered egg in the seed-filled bowl, and spoon seeds over the egg. Press the seeds into the glue, then set the egg aside to dry.

2. Cut the paper ribbon into 6- or 12-inch lengths, and curl them with a scissors blade.

3. Glue the curled paper ribbon, Spanish moss, and dried materials to the top edges of the twig nest with hotmelt adhesive.

4. Glue the seed-covered egg into the nest in an upright or horizontal position. Spray the nest and egg with clear acrylic varnish to help preserve the colors of the materials.
