Ice Skate Ornament
What You Need
- Tracing paper
- Fine-tip pen
- 4-inch square of lightweight cardboard
- 8-x-14-inch piece of felt
- Contrasting pearl cotton
- Large paper clip
- 4-inch length of narrow trim
- Polyester fiberfill
How to Make It
- Trace the skate pattern onto tracing paper; cut out the shape.
- Trace the shape onto cardboard and cut out.
- Fold the felt in half lengthwise to measure 4 x 14 inches.
- Use a fine-tip pen to trace the cardboard skate onto the felt, aligning the fold line of the pattern with the folded edge of the felt; up to six skates will fit.
- Machine-sew through both felt layers on the traced lines, leaving the straight edge unstitched.
- Cut out the skate close to the stitching and on the top line.
- Use pearl cotton to make long straight stitches over the center front of the skate for laces.
- Tie the pearl cotton into a bow at the top of the skate.
- Slide a paper clip into the skate at the bottom fold for the blade. If necessary, make a tiny opening with a scissors tip to insert the paper clip.
- Hand-sew trim around the top of the skate.
- Stuff the skate with polyester fiberfill. Add a pearl cotton hanging loop.
