Little Touches

Give those oft-neglected spots a bit of holiday cheer with quick and easy embellishments. A bit of ribbon here, a few ornaments there, and some pretty table decorations make the whole house feel like Christmas.

Do the Twist

Repeat the designs on a china pattern with a napkin ring made of metallic chenille strips. To make the ring shown, twist two stems together for the ring, then use more strips to add scallops and swirls that mimic the design of the dinnerware.

On the Ledge

Dress a window nook with objects that are right at hand. An antique soap dish plays a supporting role to a pinecone ornament. Additional ornaments circle the base of the dish with a ring of color.

Knob Appeal

Dressing a doorknob with a velvet bow and a sprig or two of holly gives an open-door greeting to guests. Tie the ribbon around the knob, then tuck fresh or silk holly into the knot.

Bead Creative

Wrap a napkin in a prestrung skein of beads for a jewel of a napkin ring. Tie a jingle bell to a thick skein of prestrung beads. Wrap the beads around the napkin slipknot style.

Purely Ornamental

Top a mirror with a vintage berry ornament crowned with a cluster of wired silver balls. Hang it from a wide velvet ribbon. Trim and hot-glue the ribbon ends into points and tack the ribbon to the back of the frame. Let the ends hang freely.

Fall Forward

Carry a pitcher of dried hydrangeas from autumn into the holidays by nestling clusters of small ornaments in the wash basin. Surround the basin with vintage balls and candles that match the hydrangea colors.
