What You Need:

Instructions:

1. Download the free pattern and folding diagrams. (Downloading requires Adobe Acrobat software.)

2. Following diagrams, fold paper. Divide and fold the sheet of white paper into thirds lengthwise so each section measures 2-3/4x11 inches (refer to Diagram 1). Crease the folded paper in half so it measures 2-3/4x5-1/2 inches (refer to Diagram 2). Fold the piece in half again so it measures 2-3/4 inches square (refer to Diagram 3).

3. Trace the pattern onto tracing paper, and roughly cut around it. Place the pattern under the first layer of white paper; align the dove's tail on the folded edge and the olive branch on the open edges. Holding the pattern in place, open up the paper. Holding the pieces together, place them against a sunny window, and trace the pattern onto the white paper with a pencil. Remove the pattern, and refold the paper along the previous fold lines. Tape the paper in two or three places to hold the layers together, being careful not to tape areas that you'll cut later.

4. Make finer cuts. Use a straight pin to poke a hole in the center of each white area shown on the pattern. Using the pinholes as starting points, cut out the smallest white area first, working with the scissors on the underside of the paper. Continue cutting out progressively larger areas. Being careful not to cut the dove's tail and olive-branch areas shown on the pattern, cut along the outside lines.

5. Unfold the sections. Each of the three sections should include four doves. Glue the sections together to make one long garland.
