Art-Filled Caddy
An old lunch box is given new life as an art supply caddy.
- Metal lunch box
- Variety of washers (available in the hardware and plumbing sections of home improvement, discount, and hardware stores)
- Strong adhesive, such as E6000
- Newspapers
- Spray primer paint
- Silver spray paint
- Acrylic paints in silver and other desired metallic colors
- Small round paintbrush
- Clear acrylic sealer
1. Decide on the arrangement of the washers on the lunch box. You can place some inside others. If necessary, cut rubber washers to fit the edges of the lunch box. Glue the washers in place. Let dry.
2. In a well-ventilated work area, cover the surface with newspapers. Open the lunch box lid and spay the inside with primer. Let dry. Prop the lid open slightly and spray primer on the outside of the lunch box. Let dry. Repeat on the inside and outside with silver paint. Let dry.
3. Paint the background surfaces where desired using a metallic paint color. For example, paint the bottom of the front, the sides, the handle, and some of the hardware. After the color is applied, brush over lightly using silver acrylic paint.
4. Paint the washers using a variety of metallic colors. Let the paint dry.
5. In a well-ventilated work area, cover the surface with newspapers. Open the lunch box and spray the inside with sealer. Let dry. Prop the lid open slightly and spray the exterior with sealer. Let dry.
