Easy Halloween Treats Kids Can Make

Your little goblins will love assembling -- and eating -- these spooky Halloween treats and sweets.       Craving a big bag of candy corn? Get your Halloween sweet fix a different way with these creamy cake push-up pops.

      To make, follow these steps:

      1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Grease two 8x8x2-inch baking pans and line with parchment paper; set aside.
      2. According to the recipe, prepare, divide, and tint the cake batter. Bake for 18 to 20 minutes.
      3. Once the cake has cooled completely, transfer to a cutting board.
      4. Prepare the orange filling and cream cheese filling according to the recipe instructions, then spoon both into separate pastry bags fitted with a large round tip.
      5. Use the open end of a push-up container to cut the cake into circles. Pipe cream cheese filling into the bottom of each container, then insert one yellow cake circle, followed by orange filling, one white cake circle, and cream cheese filling.

      Whoo-oo dare eat this menacing owl? Everyone! Though they look especially spooky, these chocolate-dipped pretzels are a hoot to make.

      To make, follow these steps:

      1. Dip large pretzels in melted confectioner's coating. Place the pretzels on waxed paper.
      2. As the coating sets, sprinkle with coarse black decorating sugar. Press a black jelly bean onto the twist of each pretzel for the nose, and small pieces of licorice candy onto the base of the pretzels for the talons.
      3. Separate a sandwich cookie and press the halves onto the pretzel for eyes.
      4. Ice white candy pieces and press onto each cookie eye, then add chocolate chips to them for pupils.
      5. Use black licorice twists as eyebrows.
    • Halloween Candy Bark

      Craving somethings salty and sweet? This irresistible blend of pretzels, chocolate, and candy is frighteningly good.

      To make, follow these steps:
      1. Prepare a baking sheet by lining it with a silicone liner or parchment paper; set aside. Chop or break any larger candies, cookies, or pretzels; set aside.
      2. Melt the vanilla candy bark (or white chocolate) as directed on package. If heating in the microwave, use 50 percent power to prevent overheating the candy/chocolate. Pour about half of the melted chocolate onto the lined baking sheet, then spread about 1/4 inch thick.
      3. Working quickly, add an assortment of pretzels, cookie pieces, and candy corn (or other candies) in a single layer.
      4. Pour the remaining melted chocolate on top of the pretzels and cookies, then add additional toppings, including sprinkles. Set aside and allow the chocolate to cool fully. You may place the entire baking sheet in the freezer for 10 minutes to speed up the process.
      5. Once the chocolate is fully set and cool, break candy bark into pieces. Store Halloween Candy Bark in an airtight container for up to a week.

      To make, follow these steps:

      1. According to the recipe instructions, prepare the cheese dip and let chill for up to 24 hours.
      2. Once thoroughly chilled, shape the cheese mixture into 1-inch balls, using about 1 tablespoon for each, then roll into cone shapes.
      3. Roll the cone shapes in crushed blue tortilla chips, pressing lightly to adhere.
      4. Use a vegetable peeler to get thin strips of carrot for the hat brim. Tie the carrot strip in a loose knot, or use the cheese ball mixture to secure the hatband.

      2. Insert straws into bases of large marshmallows. Dip part or all of each marshmallow in candy coating, spooning it over if necessary and letting excess drip off into bowl.
      3. If desired, sprinkle with orange and black nonpareils.
      4. Lay marshmallows on waxed paper (or insert straws into florist's foam to avoid a flat side) to let harden.
      5. For two-layer candy corn marshmallows, omit the nonpareils. After the first coating layer has firmed up, dip the marshmallow in a second color of candy coating, keeping the first layer of coating visible. Let stand on waxed paper or in florist's foam until coating is firm.

      1. Flatten large marshmallows. Using a black food writer, draw a skeleton face onto the marshmallows. Set aside to dry.

      3. Using blank white paper, write or print "Bag of Bones". Cut the label to the width of your bag and fold over. Attach using double-stick tape.

      No need to worry -- these monster sandwich cookies won't bite! Soft chocolate-espresso cookies filled with rich orange mascarpone cream make for quite the spooky sweet, especially when topped with big marshmallow eyes.

      To make, follow these steps:

      1. Following the recipe, make the cookie batter and chill for 30 to 60 minutes, then bake at 350 degrees F according to the directions and let cool completely.
      2. Prepare the orange filling, and spread about 2 tablespoons on half of the cookies, bottom (flat) side up.
      3. Press the flat sides of the remaining cookies against the filling, tilting the top cookie to resemble a mouth opening.
      4. Cut marshmallows in half, and attach a candy-coated peanut butter piece to the sticky side of each marshmallow half.
      5. Cut a small wedge from the bottom of each marshmallow eye to create a sticky base; immediately attach two eyes to each cookie so the eyes stand upright on the sandwich cookie.

      Sweet White Chocolate Ghosts

      There is something ghoulishly great about topping your favorite vanilla milk shake with a hauntingly sweet white ghost.

      To make, follow these steps:

      1. Line a baking sheet with waxed paper; set aside.
      2. Coarsely chop desired amount of white chocolate (about 2 ounces). Place in a small microwave-safe bowl. Microwave on high about 1 minute or just until melted and smooth, stirring every 20 seconds.
      3. Place melted chocolate in a small resealable plastic bag; seal bag. Use kitchen scissors to snip a very small piece off one corner of the bag.
      4. Pipe small ghost shapes on prepared baking sheet. Add two miniature semisweet chocolate pieces to each ghost for eyes. Allow to stand until white chocolate sets. Peel off waxed paper.

      1. Spread tops of purchased cupcakes with white frosting.

      Bloodshot Peanut Butter Eyeballs

      You won't be able to take your eyes off of these eerie Halloween peanut butter bites. Not only are they eye-catching, but they're also irresistible at any festive event.

      To make, follow these steps:

      1. In a mixing bowl stir together 1/2 cup peanut butter and 3 tablespoons softened butter. Gradually add 1 cup sifted powdered sugar, stirring until combined. Shape into 1-inch balls; place on waxed paper. Let stand until dry (about 20 minutes).
      2. Chop 8 ounces of vanilla-flavor white candy coating. Place in a heavy saucepan; cook and stir over low heat until melted and smooth. Cool slightly. Dip balls, one at a time, into coating. Let excess coating drip off peanut butter balls. Place on waxed paper; let stand until coating is firm.
      3. Use a clean small paintbrush and red food coloring to paint veins on the coated peanut butter balls.
      4. Pipe small dots of black icing for pupils.

      1. For a tall white ghoul, use clean scissors to snip one end each from two large marshmallows. Press the cut ends together.
      2. Roll fondant to about 1/4 inch thick. Cut out a 4-1/2-inch-diameter fondant circle. Shape the fondant over the marshmallow stack.
      3. Add eyes and a mouth with decorating gel.
      4. To color ghouls, tint fondant with a small amount of food coloring. For the striped version, roll small ropes of different colors of the fondant. Press ropes together and roll out with a rolling pin. Finish as directed above.
      5. If desired, use small candies for features, attaching them with decorator frosting.

      To make, follow these steps:

      1. Melt candy coating or candy disks and place in a resealable plastic bag; snip off a small corner.
      2. Pipe spider legs onto a waxed-paper-lined baking sheet and sprinkle with nonpareils (if desired). Chill legs in the refrigerator until firm.
      3. Squeeze small circles of melted coating onto another waxed-paper-lined baking sheet, and insert eight chilled legs into each circle.
      4. Add a 1-inch candy truffle on top of each circle for the spider's body.
      5. Add small candies or frosting for eyes; chill in refrigerator until firm.

      Monster Cupcakes

      With swirly eyes and spooky teeth, these monster cupcakes are goulishly good!

      To make, follow these steps:

      1. Pipe frosting high onto prepared cupcakes. Carefully slice chocolate swirl snack cakes in 1/4-inch pieces for the swirly zombie eyes. The chocolate coating on the cakes will crack off easily, so be careful during this step. Or just remove the outer chocolate altogether.

      2. Press the eyes onto the frosting faces atop the cupcakes. Cut round gummy candies in half and press them into the sides of the frosting like ears.

      3. Cut black licorice into small pieces and attach as the zombies' noses. Finally, press gum or mints into the frosting to create teeth.
