Wild Ginger

Characteristics:

  • 5 inches to 8 inches tall
  • Purple-brown, inconspicuous blooms
  • Flowers spring
  • Light shade to shade
  • Zones 4-8
  • Use in naturalistic gardens, and as a groundcover

Description: Native to North America. Deciduous heart-shape leaves. Other species are evergreen -- A.virginicum (hardy to Zone 7), A. europaeum. European ginger (hardy to Zone 5). Combines well with sweet woodruff, hellebore, and epimedium.
