Thyme
It used to be that thyme was relegated just to the herb bed. But these days, with more than 40 different varieties of thyme available, low-maintenance gardeners have found that it's a wonderful plant in the rest of the landscape, too. Most thymes grow 4 to 6 inches tall and a foot or so across, but this can vary with the cultivar. Check labels carefully.

Very easy to grow as long as it has excellent drainage. Likes poor, dry, sandy or gravelly soils. Full sun.
Plant thyme in spring in all zones or also in fall in Zones 7 and warmer.
Needs moderate to little moisture; very drought-tolerant.
