Make a Planter Character
Try this quick how-to project to provide a whimsical touch in your garden.
Terra-cotta creatures are all over the landscape these days. Coming upon one in a garden, though, is still an occasion for a giggle. Assemble your own pot people or pot pets from cracked terra-cotta containers you have around the potting shed. String the pots together with a wire through the drainage holes to form torso, arms, and legs, and use a larger pot for the head.
Because this is a garden feature, you'll want to use plants to finish off your creation. The pot person shown here holds a bouquet of basil and has hair made of creeping baby's-breath. The fur on the pot pooch is blue fescue and moss. Such terra-cotta treasures are available at garden centers if creating your own seems too intimidating.
