Blue in the Garden
Get the Garden Blues
- Clear blues emerge in spring forget-me-nots and columbines; campanulas give way to irises in early summer. As high summer approaches, bold blues take over with aconite, baptisia, clematis, and delphinium.
- Add blue to your landscape in the form of ornamental fruits: blueberry, porcelain berry, bayberry, and juniper.
- In hot, dry climates, blue appears as strong and limitless as the sky. In damp regions, blue and green merge. In shade and at dusk, blues seem violet, whereas violet seems pink, so place cool-color plants in areas where they'll shine true.
