Family Reunion Picnic

Nothing says "old-fashioned family gathering" like a picnic. Whether you're planning for 10 or 200, use our guide for a fuss-free event.

Spread the Blanket

Wherever you spread your blankets, in a backyard or a national park, a family picnic is a casual, easy way to gather the clan -- large or small. Picnic facilities are available at many historic sites, amusement parks, and beaches, as well as local parks. Toss a gingham cloth across a picnic table, unpack that treat-stuffed basket, and tell family stories around a campfire.

For an old-fashioned good time, there are many picnicking options to choose from. Every family can bring a basket of family favorites to share or swap. Guests could pick up filled baskets at the reunion, or the host could provide an assortment of foods, allowing each family to assemble its own basket. Another option: Families can bring their favorite side dishes and the host can supply the hot dogs and burgers. Or, try a potluck picnic where every family contributes a basket with one type of food and people serve themselves, buffet-style. However you choose to organize your reunion, it's the informality of a picnic that will be so appealing to attendees. Just keep an eye on your "pic-a-nic" basket -- you never know when Yogi and Booboo might drop by!
