In some areas of the home, you want to block the view -- but not the light. These two fresh, no-sew ideas offer bright solutions for bringing windows out of hiding.
Etch the Surface
Etching cream is available at crafts stores. Wear rubber gloves when working with the cream.
- Etching cream (available at crafts stores)
- Rubber gloves
- Decorative stickers (your choice)
- Clean rags
- Foam brush
- Low-tack painter's tape
- Kraft paper
1. Arrange the stickers on clean glass, and protect the moldings by masking them off with low-tack painter's tape.
2. Apply etching cream. Make sure the area is well-ventilated, then apply a thick layer of etching cream, wearing rubber gloves and using a foam brush to minimize streaking (see Photo 1). Work brush strokes horizontally, then vertically, covering the glass to the edges. In 5 minutes, the acid will etch all uncovered areas, allowing your pattern to shine through.
3. Wash off the etching cream with clear water and clean rags. Then peel off the stickers, stripping any residue with nail polish remover.
