Nature in the Drapes
Change the view from your room with this natural look that frames your windows.
- Bamboo poles (purchased from nursery or garden supply and cut to fit opening)
- Closet rod holder hardware and bracket
- Lightweight fabric
- Scissors
- Clothes iron and ironing board
- Sewing machine
- Matching thread
- Twine or ribbon for tiebacks
1. Install bamboo pole with a closet rod holder. Hang a bracket support to prevent sagging.
2. Measure width of opening and divide by two. Multiply by 1 1/2, 2, or 2 1/2, depending upon the amount of fullness desired, and add 1 inch for doubled 1/4-inch hems. Measure length from pole to floor. Add four inches. Cut two fabric panels with these measurements.
3. Press under 1/4 inch twice at the sides and bottom and stitch.
4. Press top under 1/2 inch, then 3 inches. Stitch close to lower fold to create rod pocket.
5. Sew matching tiebacks from scraps. Or, if you prefer, purchase similar drapery panels in a style compatible with your porch.
