Splashy Baths

Pattern and Color
The design tools of pattern and color often work together to transform a room. These bathrooms illustrate their abilities.
Tucked under the stairs in an old bungalow, this room lacks the square footage of modern baths. That doesn't stop it from living large, however. An allover floral pattern opens up the ceiling and dissolves cramping angles. The pattern comes from a vintage-looking fabric applied to the surfaces with wallpaper adhesive. Good ventilation keeps mildew away. The same fabric is used again on the shower curtain for a seamless look. Simple shutters on the window don't compete for attention.
An abundance of taupe-color tiles threatened to banish this bathroom into boredom. By painting the walls apple green and the cabinets cherry red, an interior designer created just the remedy. A shower curtain patterned with picnic checks enlivens the space even more.
