1 Sink, 3 Ways
Formal Flair
Stotts embraced color in the third powder room, inspired by the yellow-and-orange wallpaper and party-perfect silk fabrics.
"Yellow is always popular, but the act of putting it with orange is a little gutsy," she says. "People are afraid of orange -- it's Halloween! But this room doesn't scream yellow or scream orange. It just makes you feel warm."
Her combination of similarly saturated yellows and oranges -- hues that blend rather than match -- creates a golden glow. To continue underfoot the warm feel of the walls, Stotts specified yellow-stained wood planks.
Moldings wear a slightly astringent yellow that brings a pleasant tartness to the scheme. The orange-sherbet-color ceiling complements the window treatment. Ball-gown poufs and a flirty tassel trim emphasize the luminous silk. The crystal-adorned sconces and chandelier are fitting jewelry.
When Stotts saw a gold-color antique console table with floral motifs in orange and yellow, she knew the one-legged piece belonged in her scheme. The wall-mount antique and the pedestal sink would have looked too leggy.
For a couture solution, she added a sink skirt with faux pearls and crystal-bead trim. The skirt fastens to the sink with hook-and-loop tape for easy removal for dry-cleaning. Willing to alter an item to fit the scheme, Stotts transformed the formerly verdigris mirror frame with gold paint to complement the table and gold-look faucet.
