Easy Painted Art
Use your faux painting skills to make inexpensive and stylish artwork from medium-density fiberboard.
What You Need
- Squares of medium-density fiberboard (MDF) in desired dimensions
- Medium- and fine-grit sandpaper
- Wood sealer
- Krylon Make-It-Stone: antique white
- Latex paints: blue, sage, lavender, and antique white
- Household paintbrush
- Paper towels
Instructions
- Sand the MDF squares with medium- then fine-grit sandpaper.
- Apply wood sealer; let dry.
- For the large backing squares follow the instructions for "Hammered-Pewter Finish," on page 2.
- For the small art squares, apply Krylon Make-It-Stone spray paint. Let dry.
- Base-coat one square each with blue, sage, and lavender.
- Mix antique white with a small amount of each base coat color. To dry-brush highlights on each square, dip a household paintbrush into the light tint of the base-coat color, brush back and forth on a paper towel until only a tiny bit of color remains, then apply the highlights in a diagonal pattern. Let dry.
