Paint a Faux Hammered Pewter Finish
The shimmering look of pewter finish can be yours in only four easy steps. Follow our how-to below.
The Basics
Although it looks like hammered metal, you can create this chic silver finish by topping a dark silver base coat with two lighter hues of metallic silver paint.
- Medium- and fine-grit sandpaper
- Wood sealer
- Latex metallic paints: dark silver, medium silver, light silver
- Household paintbrush
- Sea sponge
- Acrylic varnish
- Sand the wood with medium-, then fine-grit sandpaper. Apply wood sealer and let dry.
- Using a household paintbrush, apply two coats of dark metallic silver over all surfaces, allowing the paint to dry thoroughly between coats.
- Using a sea sponge, apply metallic silver in a medium, then light hue, allowing the dark metallic silver to show in some areas. Let dry.
- Varnish as desired.
