Before and After

The Challenge: To redistribute the visual weight for a more comfortable rhythm. A dark, oversize sofa, chairs, and ottomans circle heavily around the large-screen television in the corner. When you enter the room, the first thing you see is this big black box. The glass-front bookcase seems squashed in the corner, while the angled bookcase behind the sofa is difficult to access. Sheer curtains admit light, but their barely-there color blends with the walls, heightening the contrast with the dark furniture and keeping the room out of balance.

The Solution: Move the entertainment center to the opposite corner and rearrange the furniture to create a better-balanced, more welcoming arrangement. And add warm tones to walls and windows to make the room more inviting.
