Dream Room Makeover for Tweens
The messiest kids' room we've ever seen gets a fun and funky redo.
When Kids' Rooms Etc. signed up to make over the messiest room in America, they couldn't believe what they had to work with. The girl's bedroom was jam-packed with clothes, shoes, and hand-me-down furniture with overflowing drawers. The closet didn't fare much better. While providing much-needed space for various art projects and scrapbooking, the closet was cramped and had bad lighting.
The bedroom got a fresh coat of lime green paint and focal point in a purple netting canopy for over the daybed. A beaded pink chandelier, shaggy pink rug, and shimmery bead curtains round out the funky look. To prevent the bright colors from overwhelming the space, superfunctional white furniture was used.
The most important step in turning this chaotic area into a dream room: flip-flopping the way the space was used, bringing the art area into the room and reclaiming the closet for storage. Outfitted with plenty of drawers, hanging rods, pegs, and cubbies, the closet became Stuff Central for the room.
In addition to lots of drawers, shelves were added in various sizes. Colorful woven baskets look pretty, and keep clutter off the floor.
This desk provides a place to read or do homework, and it's also the perfect spot for getting ready in the morning. Plus, it adds a hint of sophistication -- an important element allowing the room to grow with the child.
Finally, an adjustable crafts table ensures all future art projects have room to grow to their creative potential. The table has cubbies for beads, paintbrushes, and other accessories, and the crafts cupboard is just an arm's reach away. The tall cupboard acts as a one-stop shop for art supplies, including glitter, markers, and paint.
