Unusual Tables
Today, almost any object that can safely hold your necessities can be classified a table. Here are four great ideas!
Top to Bottom
Four large landscape finials form a base for a purchased glass tabletop, creating a modern art accessory.
Find a materials list and full instructions below.
- Four large finials with square bases (available at home improvement stores as fence post or newel post tops)
- Landscape timber or other lumber to fit the finial base
- Glass for table top
- Wood glue
- Black spray paint
- Clear silicone adhesive
1. Measure the finial. Cut four bases so that the final height of the bases plus the finials equals 18 x 20 inches. Most lumberyards will cut the lumber for a nominal charge. Glue each finial to a base. Paint the bases black.
2. Set the bases in place, and measure the size of the glass you will need. Have the glass cut at a glass supply store. For safety, have the top cut with "dime cut" (slightly rounded) edges and use glass that is at least 3/8-inch thick.
3. Place a dab of clear silicone on the very top of each finial, and set the glass in place.
4. Not wild about sharp glass corners? Consider a round or oval top. Or, use picture frame molding to create a frame for the glass.
