Getting Started

This project requires basic woodworking and intermediate sewing skills. The estimated cost of materials is about $150 or more, depending on the cost of fabric. One or two weekends may be needed to complete this project.


What You Need:

Quantities based on 62- x 48-inch headboard, which will fit a queen-size bed.


  • 4x8 sheet of 3/4-inch plywood
  • Pine 1x4 (length determined in Step 3)
  • 2-inch-thick foam (enough to cover a 52- x 66-inch area)
  • Spray adhesive
  • Extra-loft batting
  • 4-3/4 yards of 54-inch-wide decorator fabric
  • 4-1/2 yards of thick cording
  • Matching thread
  • Nuts, washers, and bolts
  • Screws
  • Scissors
  • Kraft paper
  • Jigsaw
  • Tape measure
  • Staple gun and staples
  • Sewing machine
  • Straight pins
  • Clothes iron
  • Drill
  • Serrated kitchen knife
