A Home That's Comfortable with Glamour
Relaxed slipcovered sofas, vintage color, and inviting paintings give this home a hint of the heartbreaking romance that defines the best shabby-chic interiors.
Kid-Friendly Style
"Glamour is great, but on its own, it's just not enough," says homeowner Kerry Ciardelli-Olson. "If a room isn't also comfortable and practical, it just won't be used."
The living room is a perfect example of that combination. It's a large room with great natural light; a fireplace; and a glorious blend of sophisticated furnishings, antique accessories, and sink-right-in seating perfect for parties.
In her home, Kerry managed to push past fresh and pretty, wielding sparkle, shine, drama, and clean-lined wood furnishings to arrive at a style that is more complex and grown-up. A healthy dose of reality hasn't hurt either.
In terms of everyday living, the living room functioned solely as a gorgeous pass-through to the kitchen. That is, until the decision was made to bring the television into the mix. Now the family can snuggle up by the fire and actually use the living room.
Kerry designed the living room as two spaces in one. The yellow, fringed ottoman tucked under the piano was a warehouse sale find.
