Hi, I'm Wendy. Warm colors, cool colors, light colors, dark colors. You know what you like, but will it look good on your walls? Here are a few tips to help you pick the perfect paint color. Color is affected by the kind of light that it receives, so consider how much natural light your room gets. Take paint swatches from the in-store display home with you before deciding on a color. The light in the store will be different than the light in your room. Once you have the colors narrowed down, buy a sample size at the store, like these from the Glidden Brilliance Collection and paint a small portion of your walls in different areas. You will get a better idea of how the paint is going to look in your room with your furniture and other accents. If you don't want to test the paint on your walls, paint on a large section of foam core that you can carry around the room, and be sure to look at the paint during different times of the day. You might be surprised how the color changes in different lighting. Paint samples are an inexpensive way to check your decision before you buy several gallons and realize the color isn't quite right. When it comes time to pick out the secondary color for accents in you room, like an accent wall or molding, look for inspiration on the color wheel to get the feel you want. In general, colors opposite each other are complimentary and when used together create a vibrant feel, whereas colors next to each other are considered the most natural when used together.
