Bow-Making Basics
Basic Looped Bow
A basic looped bow lends a fancy touch to anything. For a 6-loop bow, 1-inch wide plus tails, you will need approximately 1-1/2 yards of ribbon. If you have chosen a two-sided ribbon, you will need to make a twist in the ribbon each time it passes between your thumb and index finger. This will keep the ribbon right-side-out.
1. Create a small loop between your thumb and index finger. This will become the center or "knot" of the bow.
2. Make the first loop of the bow, twist the ribbon and hold the twist between your fingers, make a loop on the other side, twist the ribbon and hold the twist between your fingers. Make three on each side, plus the center loop. The loops should be made smaller in the center, then each slightly larger than the previous one.
3. Slip a piece of wire or chenille stem through the small loop or "knot" in the center of the bow and twist the wire to secure the bow. Fluff the bow and use the wire or chenille stem to secure the bow to your project.
