Paul Tacorian's parents emigrated from Romania and brought their love of fine jewelry with them. Their family business, started 35 years ago, has grown to employ more than 100 people. The company has created gift baskets for the Emmys and Academy Awards, and made the ring that Chandler gave to Monica on NBC's Friends.

 

1. Don't let the guy be alone in picking the ring or the wedding band. A ring is something you will wear every day for the rest of your life. Let the groom pick the cost and size, but you should weigh in on the style.
2. Purchase from a reputable jeweler who carries a wide selection.
3. A larger diamond doesn't always mean a better diamond. Consider all aspects of the purchase -- cut, color, and weight -- when making a purchase. Cut is what makes the light reflect the best.
4. Order your wedding band at the same time you buy the engagement ring. Then the pieces are guaranteed to match and be perfect together.
5. Reproducing a design is difficult, leaving many brides unhappy with the result. If you like a specific design, buy it from that designer instead of taking the idea elsewhere and having it copied.
