Wedding Tips from Experts
You may not know their names, but you've definitely seen their work. These wedding experts have created flower arrangements, cakes, rings, photographs, and china enjoyed in Hollywood and at the White House for years. Now they share their tips for making your wedding a dream day.
Flowers
Mark Held put his stamp on popular culture by providing floral arrangements for some of Hollywood's biggest stars and biggest nights. He and his team have prepared arrangements for the weddings of Gwen Stefani, Shaquille O'Neal, and Adam Sandler. They also designed the flowers for the parties that followed the 10 most recent Academy Awards ceremonies.
- Don't be afraid of color. Bold colors can be interesting and are worth experimenting with. Orange, hot pink, and acid green are hot now.
- Hit the high points, spending money where it will show. First cover the ceremony area, which will be the backdrop for photos and also what your guests will focus on. Splurge on the centerpieces at the reception, where your guests will be seated for several hours.
- Think about flowers when choosing wedding and reception locations. If you spend more on an inherently beautiful space, you'll spend less on decorations.
- Flowers are available year-round. The price difference between in-season and out-of-season flowers is negligible. But you'll get more beautiful results if you select flowers that are in their growing season (for instance, select tulips in February, not August).
- A new trend is to use different flowers for each bridesmaid. It creates interest without turning attention away from the bride.
