All About Flower Girls
Practice and Hair
Before the wedding day, it might be a good idea to practice walking down an aisle or straight path. Pretend to carry some flowers, just to get the idea of how it feels to hold your bouquet or basket. Have someone scuff up the bottoms of your shoes a bit with sandpaper so you won't slip.
Depending on the time of the wedding, eat a good breakfast or lunch. It might be a long time until the reception. Take a bubble bath so you'll feel beautiful as can be.
Perhaps your mother, a bridesmaid, or a hairdresser will fix your hair in a special style for the wedding. To help keep your gown lovely, you'll likely dress at the wedding site shortly before the ceremony. Depending on your age, you might get to wear a hint of makeup, perhaps even a light shade of lipstick.
In your hair, you may wear something similar to what the maid of honor and bridesmaids wear. That might be a hat or some real flowers. Or you may wear something special to match your gown.
You may get to wear a tiara of some sort. Or, depending on your hairdo and the style of the wedding, a big bow might look best. The bride will decide on your headpiece, of course. But she'll want you to look beautiful, so you can be sure she'll make a good choice.
Brides usually give special keepsake gifts to members of the wedding party, and you will likely receive a lovely gift, too. Often, the gift is a piece of jewelry, such as a necklace, a bracelet, or earrings. The bride may ask you to wear the special jewelry during the wedding festivities.
During the wedding, you'll stand by the bridesmaids. Or, if you're very small, perhaps you'll go sit with your parents or grandparents near the front of the church.
When the ceremony is over, the wedding party will process back down the aisle, and you'll go with them. At the reception, you can dance and join in the party with everyone else. You will always remember that you were part of a very special day for a very special friend.
