Covered buttons on both sides of
this pillow make it reversible.
Instructions:
  1. All measurements include 1/2-inch seam allowances unless otherwise noted. The pillow measures 18 inches in diameter.
  2. Cut the Fabric: Using a compass with an extension, draw a 19-inch-diameter circle onto paper; cut the circle out. Using the pattern, cut two circles from Fabric A for the front and back panels. Fold the circles into fourths and mark the quarters along the edges. On the right side of the fabric, mark the center on the front and back panels. Cut a 4 x 57-1/2-inch strip of Fabric B for the gusset.
  3. Fold the strip into fourths and mark the quarters along the top and bottom edges. With right sides together and raw edges aligned, pin the short ends of the gusset together. Using a 1/2-inch seam allowance, stitch the ends together. Press the seam open.
  4. Begin Sewing: With right sides facing and raw edges aligned, pin and sew the gusset to the front panel, matching the quarter marks. Press the seam open. Working from the right side, fold the fabrics together at the seamline. Topstitch 1/8-inch in from the seam through all the layers.
  5. With the right sides facing and raw edges aligned, sew the gusset to the back panel, matching the quarter marks and leaving a 5-inch opening along the seam as shown in the illustration, below left. Press the seam allowance open. Press the seam allowance under at the opening. Turn the cover right side out. Fold the fabrics together at the gusset/back seam. Topstitch 1/8-inch in from the seam through all layers. Do not stitch the seam line at the opening.
  6. Firmly stuff the cover with polyester fiberfill. Hand-sew the opening closed. At the opening, pin the fabrics together approximately 1-1/2-inch from the seam to create a flat space. Complete the topstitching along the seam.
  7. Follow the manufacturer's instructions to cover the buttons with Fabric A. Using a doubled length of upholstery thread and a 5-inch-long hand-sewing needle, attach the buttons to the top and bottom of the cushion to make a tuft.
