Use favorite fabrics to create a journal that reflects your style.
Finished size: 7-1/2x10 inches
Sewing Instructions: Steps 1 and 2
1. With wrong sides together, layer the cover print and flannel rectangles. Zigzag or serge together to finish the edges.
2. Turn the short edges of the layered rectangles 3/4 inch to the flannel side; topstitch close to the edges to hem. With the cover print fabric to the inside, fold the two hemmed edges 6-1/2 inches toward the center to create a 14x15-inch rectangle. Sew 2 inches from each long edge. (See the diagram.)
Sewing Instructions: Step 3
3. Turn the ends of the 1-1/2x42-inch strip under 1/4 inch. (See the diagram.) Then press the strip in half lengthwise with the wrong side inside. Open up fold and press under 1/4 inch along the long edges. Press the strip again along the center fold; stitch close to both long edges to make the tie.
Sewing Instructions: Step 4
4. To reduce bulk, trim the top and bottom seam allowances according to the diagram. Position the tie as shown and topstitch in place to complete the journal cover. Turn the cover right side out and insert a composition book (the tie should be slightly to the front side of the journal cover).
