Embellish a Dress with Applique

Give a ready-to-wear dress a custom touch with this super-simple applique technique.

What You Need

How to Make It

  1. Cut multiples of the applique pattern (download above) from a collection of fabrics (we used Kaffe Fassett designs from Westminster fabrics).
  2. Fuse to the bodice.
  3. Use black thread to zig-zag stitch around the edges of each applique.
  4. Stitch pom-pom fringe at the base of the appliques to cover fabric edges. When you sew appliques onto lightweight fabrics, a stabilizer is a must. Choose a soft, cutaway type, or a lightweight tear-away stabilizer.
