Embellish a Dress with Applique
- Fabric scraps
- Dress
- Thread
- Sewing machine
- Pom-pom fringe
- Cut multiples of the applique pattern (download above) from a collection of fabrics (we used Kaffe Fassett designs from Westminster fabrics).
- Fuse to the bodice.
- Use black thread to zig-zag stitch around the edges of each applique.
- Stitch pom-pom fringe at the base of the appliques to cover fabric edges. When you sew appliques onto lightweight fabrics, a stabilizer is a must. Choose a soft, cutaway type, or a lightweight tear-away stabilizer.
