Clutch Purse with Antique Pin Closure

The feminine shape of Amy Butler's handheld purse is accentuated by a sparkly, antique pin at the closure.

Get StartedMaterials

finished clutch purse, woman holding purse

1/2 yard of green floral for clutch body and tab
1/2 yard of coordinating print for lining
1/2 yard of canvas for interlining
1/2 yard of 13-inch-wide ultra heavyweight interfacing
1 1/4 inches of 3/4-inch-wide sew-on hook-and-loop tape
Fabric marker
Pressing ham (optional)

Finished clutch: 11 3/4 x 7 1/2 inches

Quantities are for 44/45-inch-wide, 100% cotton fabrics. All measurements include a 1/2-inch seam allowance. Sew with right sides together unless otherwise stated.

Cut the Fabrics

To make the best use of your fabrics, cut the pieces in the order that follows. The patterns are on pattern below. Note: When cutting your clutch body and tab pieces (A, B, and D), you may wish to align the patterns carefully to match up the fabric motifs.

From coordinating print, cut:

1 each of patterns A, B, and D

From canvas, cut:

1 each of patterns A, B, and D

From ultraheavyweight interfacing, cut:

CHECK YOUR COMPUTER AND PRINTER SETTINGS. Usually the website downloads are fine if you know how to set your computer and printer correctly. I had no problem with the instructions or pattern. I use a MacBook and Firefox as my browser and I saved it all as pdfs.

It wouldnt be if the instructions were better, especially for finishing the inside of the bag. I had to make up a way to sew the bag so you wouldnt see the seam allowance. The bag came out cute but it took much longer than it should have.

The ideas on this site are wonderful..I had no trouble downloading the pattern..BUT the lengthy and wasteful printing process for the instructions is ridiculous! "Pursonable"
