    • Taking Off for Fun

Load up a paper-pieced car with luggage, and add a custom license plate to complete the look. Valerie Salmon filled the car with punched silhouettes of a boy and girl, but you can cut your own or skip this step.

SOURCES: Cardstock: Prism Papers (red), Bazzill Basics Paper (all other). Punches: Fiskars (circle), McGill Inc. (boy, girl). Pens: Zig Writer.

    • Pack Your Bags

Add colorful "stickers" to your paper luggage with small patterned-paper scraps.

    • Add Your Name

Create the look of leather by stitching around the brown cardstock luggage tag. Stitching not your thing? Use a white pen and doodle stitches instead.

    • Add Travel Icons to Your Layout

      Design By Valerie Salmon

Add a jet-setting embellishment to your layout with an icon of an airplane circling the Earth. Use decorative-edge scissors to cut out the continents. Pair a black-and-white camera piecing with favorite photos from the trip, and add a splash of color with an orange-and-yellow cardstock flash.

    • Airplane Paper-Piecing Pattern

      Design by Cathy Blackstone

Paper piecings don't have to be true to life. Cathy had fun with bold prints and colors when creating her airplane paper piecing. She inked the edges of the windows and wings to help define the individual shapes.

    • Road Sign Paper-Piecing Pattern

      Design by Cathy Blackstone

Point the way on a scrapbook page with a cluster of paper-pieced road signs. Cathy made hers large enough to house a title, but you could enlarge or decrease the size of the patterns to suit your needs. She also pieced a tiny car for one sign, but you could piece something else according to your page theme.

    • Car Paper-Piecing Pattern

      Design by Cathy Blackstone

Giant gem brads make excellent hubcaps on a car piecing. For a whimsical twist, Cathy left the tires free to spin.

SOURCES: Patterned paper: BasicGrey (brown), Making Memories (pink dot), Pink Paislee (gray damask). Brads: American Crafts.

      Bicycle Paper-Piecing Pattern

      Design by Cathy Blackstone

Distressed papers add an unexpected touch to Cathy's playful bicycle. She cut gray cardstock strips to create the wheel's spokes and secured large brads where the strips crossed.

      Camera Paper-Piecing Pattern

      Design by Cathy Blackstone

A cute and colorful pieced camera works well on a scrapbook page about travel. It also makes a great addition to a photography-theme page. Cathy gave her design girly flair by backing the lens with a pink flower. We include a pattern for the flower, but you could use a purchased floral embellishment instead. Smear pink ink on the edges of your shapes to add to the look.
