4. Using guides, below, paint features. Use patterns to cut, paint, and glue on foam ears or mane pieces. To assemble, thread a 60-inch strand of pearl cotton on a crewel needle. Run through split ring; then run both ends through head bead. (Rethreading needle is necessary for working body.) Thread one strand on needle and run through one hole of 4-hole button. Thread on second strand and run through hole opposite on button. On same thread, string three 8mm beads. Run needle back into buttonhole next to beaded strand. Pull out through top of head, reinsert over split ring, and bring back down through head and button. Repeat for second arm. Pick up both strands and run through body head. Pick up one strand, run through button, and thread on leg beads. For dog, string on a 10mm bead. For cat, string on three 8mm beads and a 10mm bead. For both characters, draw down through 2-hole button and draw back through button, leg beads, and base button. Tie off when legs are complete. String on cording with alphabet beads.
