Length: 21 1/2 (22, 22 1/2, 23) inches
In Stockinette Stitch (St st) with straight needles, 16 sts and 17 rows = 4 inches/10 cm. TAKE TIME TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE!
Ssk: Slip next 2 sts knitwise one at a time to right-hand needle, insert tip of left-hand needle into fronts of these 2 sts and k them together.
M1: Lift running thread before next st onto left-hand needle and knit in its back loop to make one stitch.
Beg at the lower edge with straight needles, cast on 72 (80, 88, 96) sts.
Knit 6 rows for Garter st band. Beg with a knit row, work St st (knit RS rows, purl WS rows) for 8 rows.
Dec Row (RS): K1, ssk, k across to last 3 sts, k2tog, k1. Rep Dec Row every 8th row, twice more -- 66 (74, 82, 90) sts. Work 7 rows even.
Inc Row (RS): K1, M1, k across to last st, M1, k1.
Rep Inc Row every 8th row, twice more -- 72 (80, 88, 96) sts. Work even to approx 14-inch from beg, ending with a WS row.
Bind off 6 (7, 7, 9) sts at beg of next 2 rows. Dec Row (RS): K2, k2tog, k across to last 4 sts, ssk, k2. Rep Dec Row every other row 10 (12, 13, 14) times more -- 38 (40, 46, 48) sts. Continue even to approx 21 1/2 (22, 22 1/2, 23) inches from beg ending with a WS row.
Shoulder and Neck Shaping
Bind off 6 (6, 8, 8) sts each shoulder edge once. Place rem 26 (28, 30, 32) sts onto a holder for back neck.
Work as for Back to approx 16 1/2 (16 1/2, 17, 17 1/2) inches from beg, ending with a WS row. Place markers either side of center 12 (14, 14, 16) sts.
Continue armhole shaping and work to first marker, place center 12 (14, 14, 16) sts onto a holder, join a new ball of yarn and work to end of row. Working sides separately and at the same time, dec 1 st each neck edge every row 7 (7, 8, 8) times. Continue even on rem 6 (6, 8, 8) sts for each shoulder to same length as Back, ending with a WS row. Bind off.
Beg at the lower edge with straight needles, cast on 38 (42, 46, 50) sts. Knit 4 rows for Garter st band. Beg with a knit row, work 6 rows St st.
Dec Row (RS): K1, k2tog, k across to last 3 sts, ssk, k1. Rep Dec Row every 4th row twice more -- 32 (36, 40, 44) sts. Work 7 St st rows.
Inc Row (RS): K1, M1, k across to last st, M1, k1. Rep Inc Row every 4th row 9 times more -- 52 (56, 60, 64) sts. Work even to approx 18 inches from beg ending with a WS row.
Sleeve Cap Shaping
Bind off 6 (7, 7, 9) sts at beg of next 2 rows.
Dec Row (RS): K2, k2tog, k across to last 4 sts, ssk, k2.
Rep Dec Row every other row 9 (11, 14, 14) times more.
Bind off 2 (3, 2, 2) sts beg next 2 rows.
Bind off rem 16 (12, 12, 12) sts.
Block pieces to measurements. Join shoulder seams. Set in sleeves. Join underarm and side seams.
With the WS facing and size 8 circular needle, k26 (28, 30, 32) sts from back neck holder. Pick up and k20 (22, 22, 22) sts evenly along side of neck, k12 (14, 14, 16) sts from front holder. Pick up and k20 (22, 22, 22) sts evenly along side of neck -- 78 (86, 88, 92) sts. Place a marker to indicate beg of rnd; join. K 5 rnds. Change to size 10 needle; k 20 rnds. Change to size 10 1/2 needle; continue knitting every rnd until collar measures approx 9 inches. P 1 rnd, k 1 rnd, p 1 rnd for Garter st band. Bind off loosely and knitwise.
