Red Heart Eco-Ways Bamboo Wool: 2 balls each 3650 Dill (A), 3365 Cocoa (B), 3920 Cayenne (C).
Circular Knitting Needles: 5.5 mm [US 9] and 6.5 mm [US 10.5] - 16 inches.
Double Pointed Needles: 5.5 mm [US 9] and 6.5 mm [US 10.5].
Gauge: 12 sts = 4 inches; 16 rows = 4 inches in St st on larger needles with 2 strands held together. Check your gauge. Use any size needles to obtain the gauge.
Hatband Circumference: 21-1/2 inches.
Wristers: 8 inches long, 7-1/2-inch circumference.
Note: All pieces are worked with 2 strands of yarn held together. One color is dropped and one color is picked up every 6 rows or rnds.
Color sequence: * 6 Rows or rnds A/B, 6 rows or rnds B/C, 6 rows or rnds C/A; repeat from *. Color not being used is carried along and twisted in every 2 or 3 rows or rnds.Beret:
With smaller circular needle and A/B, cast on 64 sts. Join to work in rnds, making sure sts are not twisted. Place marker between last and first sts. Following color sequence as above, work as follows:
Band-Rnds 1-6: * K1, P1; repeat from * around.
Rnd 7: Change to larger circular needle. K 1 rnd.
Rnd 8: [K7; K into front and back of next st - inc made] 8 times - 72 sts.
Rnds 9, 11, and 13: K.
Rnd 10: K7, inc, [K8, inc] 7 times, K1 - 80 sts.
Rnd 12: K7, inc, [K9, inc] 7 times, K2 - 88 sts.
Rnd 14: K7, inc, [K10, inc] 7 times, K3 - 96 sts.
Rnds 15-17: K.
Rnd 18: K6; K2tog - dec made; [K10, dec] 7 times, K4 ? 88 sts.
Rnd 19 and all odd rnds: K.
Note: Change to dpns when work is too small for circular needle.
Rnd 20: K5, dec, [K9, dec] 7 times, K4 - 80 sts.
Rnd 22: K4, dec, [K8, dec] 7 times, K4 - 72 sts.
Rnd 24: K3, dec, [K7, dec] 7 times, K4 - 64 sts.
Rnd 26: K2, dec, [K6, dec] 7 times, K4 - 56 sts.
Rnd 28: K1, dec, [K5, dec] 7 times, K4 - 48 sts.
Rnd 30: [Dec, K4] 8 times - 40 sts.
Rnd 32: Remove st marker, K1, replace st marker (count this as beginning of rnd), [K3, dec] 8 times - 32 sts.
Rnd 34: [K2, dec] 8 times - 24 sts.
Rnd 36: [K1, dec] 8 times - 16 sts.
Rnd 38: [Dec] 8 times - 8 sts. Cut yarn, weave through remaining sts; draw up firmly; fasten securely.
With smaller dpns and B/C, cast on 22 sts, divided on 3 needles. Following color sequence as above, work as follows:
Rnds 1-12: * K1, P1; repeat from * around.
Rnds 13-18: Change to larger dpns. K.
Thumb Opening-Rnd 19: K10; insert tip of left needle from back to front under strand before next st and K the front of this st - M1R made; K2; insert tip of left needle from front to back under strand before next st and K the back of this st - M1L made; K10 - 24 sts.
Rnds 20, 22: K.
Rnd 21: K10, M1R, K4, M1L, K10 - 26 sts.
Rnd 23: K10, M1R, K4, M1L, K10 - 28 sts.
Rnd 24: K11, bind off 6 sts, K to end of rnd - 22 sts.
Rnds 25-27: Knit.
Rnd 28: Purl.
Rnd 29: Knit.
Rnd 30: Purl. Bind off.
With smaller needles and A/B, cast on 18 sts. Following color sequence as above, work as follows:
Rows 1-6: With yarn at front of work, slip 1 purlwise, yarn back, K17.
Row 7: Change to larger needles. With yarn at front of work, slip 1 purlwise, yarn back, K17.
Row 8: With yarn at front of work, slip 1 purlwise, yarn back, K2, P12, K3.
Repeat Rows 7 and 8 until 57 inches from beginning. Change to smaller needles and repeat Rows 1-6. Bind off.
