- Size 10 (6.5 mm) needles or size needed to obtain gauge

Ok. I'm completely new to knitting (I actually just really got into it this morning) and I'm not sure what and how much yarn to use. Is the lion brand entry how much yarn there will be used in total or how much we need for all three balls of yarn? Also, is there a way to make a ball of yarn without a machine?
