Back

Ribbing
With smaller needles and A, cast on 15 sts. Work Ribbing Rows 1-4 for 40 (42, 44, 46, 48) times. Rep Row 1 again. Bind off knitwise.

Upper Body
With RS facing, using smaller needles and B, pick up and k82 (86, 90, 94, 98) sts evenly spaced along one edge of Ribbing. Note: It works best to pick up 1 st in each slip st along edge with 1 st at either end. Change to larger needles and beg Body Pattern. Work even to approx 10 1/2 (11, 11 1/2, 12, 12 1/2) inches from beg, ending with a WS row.

Armhole Shaping
Bind off 12 sts at beg of next 2 rows. Work even on 58 (62, 66, 70, 74) sts to approx 18 (19, 20, 21, 22) inches from beg, ending with a WS row.

Shoulder and Neck Shaping
Bind off 15 (16, 17, 18, 19) sts each shoulder edge once. Bind off rem 28 (30, 32, 34, 36) sts.


Front

Work as for Back to approx 15 1/2 (16 1/2, 17 1/2, 18 1/2, 19 1/2) inches from beg, ending with a WS row.

Neck Shaping
Pattern across first 21 (22, 23, 24, 25) sts; join new balls and bind off center 16 (18, 20, 22, 24) sts; work to end of row. Working sides separately and at the same time, bind off at each neck edge 3 sts once, 2 sts once, and 1 st once. Cont in pattern on rem 15 (16, 17, 18, 19) sts until piece measures same length as Back, ending with a WS row. Bind off rem sts for each shoulder.


Sleeves (make 2)

Ribbing
With smaller needles and A, cast on 15 sts. Work Ribbing Rows 1-4 for 22 (22, 22, 24, 24) times. Rep Row 1 again. Bind off knitwise. With RS facing using smaller needles and B, pick up and k 46 (46, 46, 50, 50) sts evenly spaced along edge. Change to larger needles and work Rows 1-7 of Body Pattern. Including new sts into pattern as they accumulate, inc 1 st each edge NOW and every 4th row 0 (0, 4, 4, 8) times, every 6th row 1 (12, 10, 10, 8) times, and every 8th row 8 (0, 0, 0, 0) times. Work even on 66 (72, 76, 80, 84) sts to approx 21 1/2 (21 1/2, 22, 22 1/2, 23) inches from beg, ending with a WS row. Bind off.


Finishing

Join shoulder seams. Set in sleeves, sewing bound off sts to sleeve sides for square armholes. Join underarm and side seams.

Neckband
With smaller needles and A, cast on 15 sts. Work Ribbing Rows 1-4 until neckband, when slightly stretched, fits around neck opening. Rep Row 1 and bind off. Sew short edges tog. Pin neckband around neck, placing seam at center back. Sew in place.
