Crocheted Sports Bedspread and Pillow Set

Crochet the Bedspread

Note: Bedspread is worked in 5 strips; strips are then sewn or slip-stitched tog.


STRIP I (make 3)

Color Sequence I: *(4 rows A, 2 rows B, 4 rows A, 2 rows C) twice, 4 rows A, 2 rows B, 4 rows A; 34 rows D; rep from * twice more. With A, ch 29, sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across28 sts; turn.

Row 1: Ch 1. Sc in each sc across. Cont to rep Row 1 until Color Sequence I is complete204 rows; fasten off.


STRIP II (make 2)

Color Sequence II: *34 rows D, (4 rows A, 2 rows B, 4 rows A, 2 rows C) twice, 4 rows A, 2 rows B, 4 rows A; rep from * twice more. With D, ch 29. Work same as Strip I, foll Color Sequence II.


FINISHING

Work 6 rows of crossstitches to complete the plaid pattern on striped blocks as foll: Beg stitching in 2nd row and in 2nd st from left side of block with C. Work towards top of block and make a crossstitch in every other row -- 17 cross-stitches. Sk 4 sts to right of first row of C cross-stitches and work B cross-stitch in next st. Complete row of B crossstitches -- 17 cross-stitches. Cont to make 4 more rows of cross-stitches to complete plaid pat, alternating colors B and C. Work cross-stitches in the same manner in all colored blocks. Alternate strips, beg and ending with Strip I; join strips.

Side Edges: With RS facing and working at Side Edge, (join A and sc evenly along side of plaid section, join D and sc evenly along side of solid section) 3 times; fasten off. Rep on opposite Side Edge.

Border: Join B in any sc.
Rnd 1 (RS): Ch 1, sc evenly around entire Bedspread, working 3 sc in each corner; end join with sl st to first sc; turn.
Rnds 2-3 (WS): Ch 1, sc in each sc around, working 3 sc in each corner; join it with sl st to top of first sc; do not turn; fasten off at end of Rnd 3. Weave in loose ends. Cut appliqués into desired shapes. Sew or glue shapes onto solid D sections of Bedspread.
