Hooks and Extras

  • Size I/9 (5.50 millimeters) crochet hook or size needed to obtain gauge
  • Blunt-end yarn needle
  • 4 (5) buttons for jacket, .5 inch diameter

Gauge

  • Blanket = In Pat, 13 sts and 11 rows = 4 inches/10 centimeters
  • Jacket = 13 hdc and 9.5 rows = 4 inches/10 centimeters

Special Pattern Stitches

Longhdc: Yo and draw up a long lp in top of dc (for Blanket) or sc (for Jacket) 2 rows below, yo and draw through all lps on hook.

Hdc2tog: Yo and draw up lp in each of next 2 sts, yo and draw through all 5 lps on hook.

2. Blanket. Beg at lower edge with MC, ch 111. Row 1 (RS): Dc in 4th ch from hook -- counts as 2 dc; dc in each ch across -- 109 sts; turn. Row 2: Ch 1, sc in each st across; turn. Row 3: Ch 3 -- counts as dc; dc in each st across; turn. Row 4: With A, ch 1, sc in each of first 2 sts; * Longhdc, sc in next st, Longhdc, sc in each of next 3 sts; rep from * across, ending with sc in each of last 2 sts; turn. Row 5: With MC, rep Row 3. Row 6: With MC, rep Row 2. Row 7: With MC, rep Row 3. Row 8: With B, ch 1, sc in each of first 5 sts; * Longhdc, sc in next st, Longhdc, sc in each of next 3 sts; rep from * across, ending with sc in each of last 5 sts; turn. Rows 9-11: Rep Rows 5-7. 3. Edging. Rnd 1: Join A in any corner st, ch 1, 3 sc in same st. Sc evenly around sides, working 3 sc in corners; join to first sc. Rnd 2: Ch 1, sc in each sc around, working 3 sc in each corner sc; join with sl st to first sc. Fasten off. Rnd 3: Note: Adjust the number of skipped sts as necessary to end as instructed. Join MC in any corner sc, 3 -- counts as dc; 2 dc in same st. * Sk next 2 sc, sc in next sc, sk next 2 sc, 5 dc in next sc; rep from * around; end with 2 dc in same st as first sl st; join with sl st to top of beg ch-3. Fasten off.

4. Jacket. Jacket is worked in one piece to armholes. Carry MC along side edge when working the color rows. To change color at the end of a dc row: In last st and with color in use, yo and draw up a lp, yo and draw through 2 lps on hook; with new color, yo and draw through rem 2 lps on hook. To change color at the end of a sc row: With color in use, draw up a lp, with new color complete the sc.

5. Body. With MC, ch 62 (68). Row 1 (RS): Sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in each ch across; turn -- 61 (67) sts. ** Row 2: Ch 1, sc in each sc across; turn. Row 3: Ch 3 -- counts as dc; dc in each sc across; turn. Row 4: With A, ch 1, sc in first 2 sts; * work Longhdc, sc in next st, Longhdc, sc in next 3 sts; rep from * across; end with sc in last 2 sts; turn. Row 5: With MC, ch 2 -- counts as hdc; hdc in each st across; turn. ** Rep Row 5 until work from beg measures approx 5.5 (6) inches ending with a WS row.

6. Right Front. Ch-2 at beg of rows always counts as first hdc. Row 1 (RS): Ch 2, Hdc2tog over next 2 sts, hdc in each of next 12 (13) sts; turn, leaving rem sts unworked. Row 2: Ch 2, hdc in each st to last 2 sts, Hdc2tog over last 2 sts; turn. Row 3: Ch 2, Hdc2tog over first 2 sts, hdc in each st to end of row; turn. Rep Rows 2-3 once more -- 10 (11) sts. Next Row (WS): Ch 2, hdc in each st to end of row; turn. Next Row: Ch 2, Hdc2tog over first 2 sts, hdc in each st to end of row; turn -- 9 (10) sts. Work even until armhole measures approx 4.5 (5) inches. Fasten off.

7. Back. With RS facing, join MC with sl st to next st, ch 2, hdc in each of next 30 (34) sts; turn, leaving rem sts unworked. Cont even on these 31 (35) sts for Back until armhole measures 2 rows less than Right Front. Shape Back Neck Ch 2, hdc in each of next 7 (8) sts, Hdc2tog over next 2 sts; turn, leaving rem sts unworked. Next Row: Ch 2, hdc in each st across--9 (10) sts. Fasten off. Next Row: Sk center 11 (13) sts; join MC with sl st to next st, ch 2, Hdc2tog over next 2 sts, hdc in each st across; turn. Next Row: Ch 2, hdc in each st to end of row--9 (10) sts. Fasten off.

8. Left Front. With RS facing, join MC with sl st to next st, ch 2, hdc in each st to last 2 sts, Hdc2tog over last 2 sts; turn. Work Left Front to correspond to Right Front, reversing all shaping.

9. Sleeves (make 2). With MC, ch 26. Row 1 (RS): Sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in each ch across -- 25 sts. Work from ** to ** as for Body. Work 1 more row in hdc. Shape Sides (RS): Ch 2, hdc in first st, hdc in each st to last st, 2 hdc in last st; turn. Work 1 row in hdc.

Rep last 2 rows 1 (3) time(s) more -- 29 (33) sts. Cont even until Sleeve from beg measures approx 6.5 (7.5) inches. Fasten off.

10. Finishing. Sew shoulder seams. Sew sleeve seams. Sew in sleeves.

11. Front Edging. With RS facing, join MC with sl st to lower corner of Right Front, ch 1, work 19 (24) sc evenly up Right Front edge to beg of neck shaping, 15 (17) sc to shoulder, 16 (18) sc across back neck, 15 (17) sc down Left Front neck edge and 19 (24) sc down Left Front edge to opposite corner; turn. Row 2 (Buttonhole row): Ch 1, sc in each of first 2 sc; * Ch 2, sk next 2 sc, sc in each of next 3 sts; rep from * 2 (3) times more, ch 2, sk next 2 sc, sc in each st to end of row; turn. Row 3: Ch 1, sc in each sc, working 2 sc in each ch-2 sp to end of row; turn. Row 4: With A, ch 1, sc in each sc across. Fasten off. Sew buttons in place.
