Striped Knitted Baby Set

Row 1 (RS): With MC, K3; *with A, k1; with MC, k3; rep from * across.

Row 2: With MC, p1; *with A, p1; with MC, p3; rep from * to last 2 sts, with A, p1; with MC, p1.

Rows 3-12: With A, work in St st (knit RS rows, purl WS rows), beg with a knit row.

Row 13: *With A, k1; with B, k1; rep from * to last st, with A, k1.

Row 14: *With B, p1; with A, p1; rep from * to last st, with B, p1.

Rows 15-24: With B, work in St st, beg with a knit row.

Row 25: With B, k3; *with C, k1; with B, k3; rep from * across.

Row 26: With B, p1; with C, p1; with B, p3; rep from * to last 3 sts, with C, p1; with B, p1.

Rows 27-36: With C, work in St st, beg with a knit row.

Row 37: *With C, k1; with MC, k1; rep from * to last st, with C, k1.

Row 38: *With MC, p1; with C, p1; rep from * to last st, with MC, p1.

Rows 39-48: With MC, work in St st, beg with a knit row.

Repeat Rows 1-48 for Stripe pat.

With smaller needles and MC, cast on 51 (59, 63) sts. Knit 1 row (WS). Change to larger needles and work in pat as follows:

Rows 1, 3, 5, 7, 9, and 11 (RS): Knit.

Rows 2 and 8: Purl.

Rows 4 and 6: P4 (4,2), *k3, p5; rep from * to last 7 (7, 5) sts, k3, p4 (4, 2).

Rows 10 and 12: P 0 (0, 6), *k3, p5; rep from * to last 3 (3, 9) sts, k3, p 0 (0, 6).

Rep Rows 1-12 until piece measures 3 (4, 5 1/2) inches from beg, end with a WS row. Beg with Row 1, work Stripe pat until piece measures 9 (10, 11 1/2) inches from beg, end with a WS row.

Next row (RS): Keeping to Stripe pat, bind off 38 (42, 44) sts, knit to end of row -- 13 (17, 19) sts rem. Work 4 rows in St st on rem sts for button flap. Next row (WS): *K1, p1; rep from * to last st, k1. Bind off rem sts.

Work same as Back until piece measures 7 (8, 9 1/2) inches from beg, end with a WS row.

Next row (RS): Keeping to Stripe Pat, work 18 (22, 24) sts. Sl rem 33 (37, 39) sts onto holder. Working on 18 (22, 24) sts on needle, dec 1 st at neck every row 5 times -- 13 (17, 19) sts. Work 4 rows even.

Next row (RS): *K4 (5, 5), k2tog, yo, rep from * twice, knit to end of row. Purl 1 row; knit 1 row.

Next row (WS): *K1, p1; rep from * to last st, k1. Bind off sts in ribbing. Sl sts from holder onto needle and bind off center 15 sts; knit rem 18 (22, 24) sts. Dec 1 st at neck edge every row 5 times -- 13 (17, 19) sts. Work 4 rows even. Bind off all sts.

With smaller needles and B, cast on 36 (36, 36) sts. Knit 1 row (WS); fasten off B. Change to larger needles and work Stripe pat, beg with Row 3 and AT THE SAME TIME inc 1 st each edge every 5th row, then every 4th (3rd, 3rd) row 8 (10, 14) more times -- 54 (58, 66) sts. Cont even in Stripe pat until piece measures 6 (6 1/2, 8) inches from beg, end with a WS row. Bind off all sts.

Sew Back to Front at right shoulder seam.

With RS facing and using smaller needles and A, pick up and knit 64 (68, 68) sts evenly along neck edge. K1 row. Change to MC; k 1 row. Bind off with knit sts. Place Back left shoulder button flap under Front left shoulder; sew shoulders tog at the armhole edge. Sew Sleeves to armholes. Sew side and Sleeve seams. Sew buttons to button flap opposite buttonholes.
