Rough-and-Ready Knitted Raglan Sweater

Four colors of yarn add plenty of pattern to this sweater with vivid bronze and copper stripes. The raglan sleeves have more subtle stripes of dark sage.
Back

Beg at lower edge with color A and larger needles, cast on 77 (81, 85, 89) sts. K 1 row.
Next Row: P1; (k1, p1) across. Beg Body Pattern. Work even to approx 12 1/2 (13, 13 1/2, 14) inches from beg, ending with a WS row.

Raglan Shaping
Bind off 2 sts at beg of next 2 rows.
Dec Row: K1, ssk, pattern across to last 3 sts, k2tog, k1.
Next Row: P2, pattern across, ending p2.
Rep Dec Row every 4th row 3 (4, 5, 5) times more, then every 2nd row 17 (17, 17, 18) times, ending with a WS row.
Place rem 31 (33, 35, 37) sts onto a holder.

Front

Work as for Back until piece measures approx 18 (19, 20, 21) inches from beg, ending with a WS row and placing markers either side of center 13 (15, 17, 19) sts.

Neck Shaping
Cont Raglan Shaping, work to marker, place center 13 (15, 17, 19) sts onto a holder, join a new strand of yarn and work to end. Working sides separately and at the same time, dec 1 st each neck edge every other row 4 times. When piece measures same length as Back, ending with a WS row, place rem 5 sts for each shoulder onto safety pins.

Sleeves (make two)

Beg at lower edge with color A and larger needles, cast on 31 (33, 35, 37) sts. Knit 1 row. Next Row: P1; (k1, p1) across.

Body Pattern
Row 1 (RS): With B, knit.
Row 2: With B, p1; (k1, p1) across.
Rows 3-4: As Rows 1-2.
Rows 5-7: With A, knit.
Row 8: With A, p1; (k1, p1) across.
Rep Rows 1-8 for Body Pattern to approx 2 inches from beg, ending with a WS row.
Inc Row: K1, M1, pattern across to last st, M1, k1. Inc 1 st each edge every 4th row 3 (4, 0, 0) times more then every 6th row 9 (9, 11, 9) times and every 8th row 0 (0, 2, 4) times -- 57 (61, 63, 65) sts. Cont in pattern to approx 12 1/2 (13, 15, 16) inches from beg, ending with a WS row.

Raglan Shaping
Bind off 2 sts at beg of next 2 rows.
Dec Row: K1, ssk, pattern across to last 3 sts, k2tog, k1.
Next Row: P2, pattern across, ending p2.
Rep Dec Row every 4th row 7 (7, 8, 8) times more then every 2nd row 9 (11, 11, 12) times, ending with a WS row.
Place rem 19 sts onto a holder.

Finishing

Neckband
With RS facing, using smaller needle and color B, begin with back and k1, ssk, k25 (27, 29, 31) sts, k2tog. K2tog over last st from back and first st from sleeve, on sleeve, ssk, k13, k2tog. K2tog over last st from sleeve and first st from front, on front, k3tog, k1, pick up and k9 sts evenly spaced along side of neck, k13 (15, 17, 19) sts from holder, pick up and k9 sts along side of neck, k1, k3tog. K2tog over last st from front and first st from sleeve, on sleeve, ssk, k13, k2tog. K2tog over last st from sleeve and first st from back -- 96 (100, 104, 108) sts. Place marker to indicate beg of rnd; join.

Rnd 1: (P1, k1) around.

Rnds 2-5: As Rnd 1.

Rnds 6-11: With color C, rep Rnd 1. Bind off loosely and knitwise. Turn neckband to inside and whip st in place.

Join raglans, sides, and sleeve seams. Hide ends on WS of fabric.
