Instructions

Front

** Beg at lower edge with smaller needles, cast on 67 (71, 79, 85) sts. Work Garter St (knit every row) for 7 (7, 9, 9) rows noting first row is WS and inc 4 sts evenly across last row -- 71 (75, 83, 89) sts. Change to larger needles and work in St st until work from beg measures approx 9 1/2 (10, 11 1/2, 13) inches, ending with a WS row. Work Chart Rows 1-23, noting 8 st rep will be worked 8 (9, 10, 11) times. ** Next Row (WS): Knit. Next 2 rows: Purl.

Neck Shaping
Next Row (RS): Work Row 4 of Chart across first 26 (27, 30, 33) sts (neck edge). Turn. Leave rem sts on a spare needle. Work 1 row even from chart. Keeping cont of chart, dec 1 st at neck edge on next and following alt rows 3 (4, 4, 5) times more -- 22 (22, 25, 27) sts. Cont working Chart until Row 15 of chart is complete. Cont in St st until work from beg measures approx 15 1/2 (16 1/2, 18, 20) inches, ending with a purl row.

Shoulder Shaping
Bind off 11 (11, 12, 13) sts beg next row. Work 1 row even. Bind off rem 11 (11, 13, 14) sts. With RS of work facing, slip center 19 (21, 23, 23) sts onto a st holder. Join yarn to rem sts and work to correspond to other side, reversing Chart pat and shaping.


Back

Work from ** to ** as given for Front. Rep Rows 1 to 15 of Chart once more. Cont in St st until work from beg measures approx 15 1/2 (16 1/2, 18, 20) inches, ending with a purl row.

Shoulder Shaping
Bind off 11 (11, 12, 13) sts beg next 2 rows, then 11 (11, 13, 14) sts beg following 2 rows. Leave rem 27 (31, 33, 35) sts on a st holder.


Sleeves (make two)

Beg at lower edge with smaller needles, cast on 35 (37, 37, 39) sts. Work Garter St for 7 (7, 9, 9) rows, noting first row is WS and inc 2 sts evenly across last row -- 37 (39, 39, 41) sts. Change to larger needles and work 6 rows in St st. Shape sides by inc 1 st each edge on next and every 6th (6th, 6th, 4th) row 8 (10, 12, 6) times, then on 6th rows 0 (0, 0, 10) times -- 55 (61, 65, 75) sts. Work even until sleeve measures approx 11 (13, 15, 16 1/2) inches, ending with a purl row. Bind off.


Finishing Sweater

Neckband
Sew right shoulder seam. With smaller needles, pick up and knit 11 (13, 13, 15) sts down left front neck edge. K19 (21, 23, 23) from Front st holder, dec 2 sts evenly across. Pick up and knit 11 (13, 13, 15) sts up right front neck edge. K27 (31, 33, 35) from Back st holder dec 3 sts evenly across -- 63 (73, 77, 83) sts. Work 6 rows in Garter St. Bind off knitwise (WS). Sew left shoulder and neckband seam. Place markers on side edges of Front and Back 5 1/2 (6, 6 1/2, 7 1/2) inches down from shoulder seams. Set in sleeves between markers. Sew side and sleeve seams.


Hat

With smaller needles, cast on 81 (89, 89, 97) sts. Work 7 Garter St rows noting first row is WS. Change to larger needles and work 2 rows St st. Work Rows 17 to 23 of Chart as for size 10 of pullover noting 8 st rep will be worked 10 (11, 11, 12) times. Next Row (WS): Knit. Next 2 Rows: Purl. Work Rows 4 to 12 of chart as for size 10 of pullover, noting 8 st rep will be worked 10 (11, 11, 12) times. Next 2 Rows: Purl. Next Row: Knit. Beg with a knit row, work 2 rows St st, dec 2 (4, 4, 0) sts evenly across last row -- 79 (85, 85, 97) sts.

Top Shaping
(RS): K1; * k2tog, k11 (12, 12, 14). Rep from * 5 times more -- 73 (79, 79, 91) sts. Next Row: Purl. Next Row: K1; * k2tog, k10 (11, 11, 13). Rep from * 5 times more -- 67 (73, 73, 85) sts. Next Row: Purl. Cont in this manner, dec 6 sts evenly across next and following alt rows until there are 7 sts. Break yarn leaving a long end. Draw end through rem sts and fasten securely. Sew center back seam.

Make Tassel
Wind yarn around a piece of cardboard 4 inches wide approx 25 times. Remove cardboard and wrap yarn around loops 3/4 inch below top edge. Tie yarn tightly through top loops. Cut through bottom loops. Sew tassel to top of Hat.
