With MC, cast on 61 (71, 81) sts. Work in Seed st for 1 1/2 inches, ending with a RS row. Next row: Purl. Next row: Knit. Next row: Purl. Work Rows 1 -- 19 of Striped pat. Row 20 (WS): Cont with MC only, purl to last 2 sts, p2tog -- 60 (70, 80) sts. Row 21: *K8, k2tog; rep from * across -- 54 (63, 72) sts. Row 22 and all even numbered rows: Purl. Row 23: *K7, k2tog; rep from * across -- 48 (56, 64) sts. Row 25: *K6, k2tog; rep from * across -- 42 (49, 56) sts. Row 27: *K5, k2tog; rep from * across -- 36 (42, 48) sts. Row 29: *K4, k2tog; rep from * across -- 30 (35, 40) sts. Row 31: *K3, k2tog; rep from * across -- 24 (28, 32) sts. Row 32: P2tog across -- 12 (14, 16) sts.
Cut yarn, leaving a long tail. Thread tail through rem sts, pull tightly and fasten off. Use remainder of tail to sew seam. Make four 1-1/2-inch-diameter pom-poms, one each using colors A, B, C, and D. Sew pom-poms to top of Hat.
