Floral Dress

This darling yellow dress has a handful of pastel blossoms sewn randomly to it.

Sizes: 12 mo (18 mo, 2 yrs, 4 yrs). Shown in Size 4. When only one number is given, it applies to all sizes.

2. Back. ** Skirt: With larger hook and MC, ch 70 (76, 79, 85). Row 1 (RS): In 5th ch from hook work dc, ch 1 and dc -- beg V-st made); * sk next 2 ch, V-st in next ch; rep from * across; end sk ch, dc in last ch; turn -- 22 (24, 25, 27) V-sts made.

Row 2: Ch 4, dc in first dc -- counts as first V-st, * sk next dc and ch-1sp, V-st in next dc; rep from * across; end sk last V-st, work V-st in last dc; turn.

Row 3: Ch 3 -- counts as dc, sk next ch-1 sp; * work V-st in next dc, sk dc and ch-1 sp; rep from * across; end sk next dc and ch-1, work dc in 3rd ch of ch-3; turn. Rep Rows 2-3 for Pat. Work in Pat until work from beg measures approx 8.5 (10, 11, 12.5)"; end with WS row.

4. Sizes 12 mo, 2 and 4 only. Dec Row: Ch 2; * sk next st, hdc in next 2 sts, sk next st, hdc in next st; rep from * to last 2 (1, 2) st(s); sk next 1 (0, 1) st, hdc in last st; turn -- 41 (47, 50) hdc.

5. All Sizes. Next Row: Ch 2 , hdc in each hdc to end of row. Rep last row until work from beg measures approx 9.25 (11, 13, 14.5)" from beg; end with a WS row.

6. Armhole Shaping. Row 1 (RS): Sl st in first 6 hdc, ch 1, hdc in same st as last sl st, hdc in each hdc across, leaving last 5 sts unworked; turn -- 31 (34, 37, 40) sts.

Row 2: Ch 2, hdc2tog over next 2 hdc, hdc in each hdc across; work hdc2tog over last 2 hdc; turn. Rep Row 2 until 27 (28, 29, 30) sts rem.

Next Row: Ch 2, hdc in each st to end of row; turn. ** Rep last row until armhole measures approx 4.5 (5, 5.5, 5.5) inches; end with a WS row.

7. Shoulder Straps. Row 1: Ch 2, hdc in next 6 hdc, hdc2tog over next 2 hdc; turn, leaving rem sts unworked. Place marker at end of row.

Row 2: Ch 2 , hdc2tog over first 2 sts, hdc in each hdc across; turn -- 7 sts.

*** Rows 3-4: Ch 2, hdc in each st to end of row; turn.

Row 5: Ch 2, hdc2tog over next 2 sts, hdc in each hdc to last 2 sts, hdc2tog over last 2 sts -- 5 sts; turn.

Row 6 (Buttonhole Row): Ch 2, hdc in next st, ch 1, sk next hdc, hdc in last 2 sts; turn.

Row 7: Ch 2, hdc in next hdc, hdc in ch-1 sp, hdc in last 2 sts; turn.

Row 8: Ch 2, hdc2tog, hdc in each of last 2 sts.

Row 9: Rep Row 8 -- 3 sts rem. Row 10: Work 1 row even. Fasten off. ***

8. Work Shoulder Strap on opposite side of Back as follows: With RS facing, sk next 9 (10, 11, 12) hdc; join MC with sl st to next hdc, ch 2 -- counts as hdc; hdc2tog over next 2 hdc, hdc in each hdc across; turn.

Next Row: Ch 2, hdc in each hdc across; work hdc2tog over last 2 sts; turn. Rep from *** to ***.

9. Front. Work from ** to ** of Back. Rep last row until armhole measures approx 2.5 (2.5, 3, 3)"; end with a WS row.

10. Neck Shaping. Row 1: Ch 2, hdc in next 7 hdc, hdc2tog over next 2 hdc; turn, leaving rem sts unworked. Place marker at end of row.

Row 2: Ch 2, hdc in each st across; turn -- 9 sts. Rep last row until armhole measures approx 4.5 (5, 5.5, 5.5) inches, ending with a WS row. Fasten off.

With RS facing, sk center 7 (8, 9, 10) hdc, join yarn to next hdc, ch 2 -- counts as hdc; hdc2tog over next 2 hdc; work Pat to end of row; turn. Work even on rem 9 sts until length is same as first side. Fasten off.

11. Sew side seams. Armhole and Neck Edging With RS facing, join MC with sl st to 2nd hdc from corner at Back Neck edge. Ch 1, sc evenly across back neck edge to last sc, sc2tog in corner. Sc evenly around left shoulder strap and armhole edge, working 3 sc at front point. Sc2tog in front left corner, sc evenly along front neck edge, sc2tog in right front corner. Sc evenly around right shoulder strap and armhole edge, working 3 sc at front point, sc2tog in right back corner; join with sl st to first sc. Fasten off.

12. Flower Motif (If desired, make 10 of each in A, B, C and D colors): With smaller crochet hook, ch 2.

Rnd 1: Work 10 sc in 2nd ch from hook; join to first sc.

Rnd 2: (Ch 5, sk next sc, sl st in next sc) 4 times, ch 5, sl st in first ch of beg ch-5 -- 5 petals made. Fasten off.

Sew 3 flowers of various colors to shoulder straps next to buttonholes as shown in photo. Sew 5 flowers sprinkled along skirt front and rem flowers to lower edge of skirt front.

Sew on buttons. Weave ribbon through last V-st row at waist and tie into bow at front.
