Sweater-Style Pillows

1 skein homespun-weight yarn (185 yards per skein) in each of three colors, noted in instructions as A, B, C

Size 10-1/2/K (6.5 mm) aluminum crochet hook or size needed to obtain gauge

16-inch square pillow form

Yarn needle

In Body pattern, 10 sts and 10 rows = 4 inches/10cm. PLEASE TAKE TIME TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE.

HOW TO MAKE THE BOBBLE STITCH: Keeping last lp of each dc on hook, make 5 dc in next st; yo and draw through all 6 lps on hook, ch 1.

BODY PATTERN (a multiple of 10 sts + 2 sts; a rep of 8 rows) Row 1: With A, ch 1, hdc in each st across; turn. Row 2: With A, rep Row 1, changing to color B in last st; turn. Row 3 (WS): With B, ch 1, sc in first 3 sts, bobble in next st, sc in next 9 sts, bobble in next st, sc in 9 sts changing to A in last st; turn. Rows 4 - 6: Rep Row 1, changing to color C in last st of Row 6. Row 7: With C, ch 1, sc in first 8 sc, bobble 1 next sc, sc in next 9 sts, bobble in next st, sc in 3 sts changing to A in last st; turn. Row 8: With A, rep Row 1. Rep rows 1 - 8 for Body Pattern.

Notes: Pillow Front is made in 2 sections and then jointed together. To change color at the end of an hdc row, with present color yo and draw up an lp in last st, complete the hdc with next color.

First Section With color A, ch 23. Hdc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across -- 22 sts; turn. Work Body Pattern until piece measures 16 inches from beg. ending with Row 2 or Row 6. Fasten off.

Second Section With color B, ch 40, Hdc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across -- 39 sts; turn. Row 1: With B. ch 1, hdc in each st across; turn. Row 2: Rep Row 1, changing to A in last st. Row 3 (WS): With A, ch 1, sc in first 4 sts, bobble in next st; *sc in next 9 sts, bobble in next st; rep from * across, ending sc in last 4 sts changing to B. Rows 4 - 6: With B, rep Row 1, changing to C in last st of Row 6. Row 7: With C, ch 1, sc in each of first 9 sts; *bobble in next st, sc in next 9 sts; rep from * across changing to B in last st; turn. Row 8: With B, ch 1, hdc in each st across; turn. Rep rows 1 - 8 until piece measures 7 inches from beg, ending with Row 3 or Row 7. Fasten off.

With color C, ch 40. Hdc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across -- 39 sts; turn. Row 2: Ch 1, hdc in each hdc across; turn. Rep Row 1 to 16 inches from beg. Fasten off.

Holding fronts with RS tog so that the longest portion of Section 2 Is next to the widest portion of Section 1. Sew the front sections together, as pictured. Holding RS of front and back together, sew through back lps along 3 sides to join. Turn RS out. Insert pillow form and sew hem side.
