Geometric Pillow

A clutch of soft-to-the-touch pillows make an inviting statement to any room. Curl up with these cuddly pillows all winter long. They're quick and easy to make, so you might even want to make extras to give as gifts. Beyond the neutral colors shown, these pillows look great in any combination of three colors to complement any room.

 

• 1 ball chunky-weight yarn (153 yards per ball) in each of three colors, noted in instructions as A, B, C
• Size 10-1/2 K (6.5mm) aluminum crochet hook or size needed to obtain gauge
• 18-inch square pillow form
• Yarn needle

In sc, 10 sts and 10 rows = 4 inches/10cm. PLEASE TAKE TIME TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE.

PILLOW FRONT Center Diamond (measures 9 inches square) Using Color A, ch. 24.

Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across -- 23 sts; turn. Row 2: Ch 1, sc in each sc across; turn. Repeat Row 2 to 9 inches from beginning. Fasten off.

Join color B with a sl st in any corner. Ch 2 (counts as hdc), 2 hdc in same st, work 21 hdc evenly spaced to next corner. (3 hdc in next corner, work 21 hdc evenly spaced to next corner) 3 times, join with a sl st in 2nd ch of beg ch-2. Fasten off.

FIRST CORNER TRIANGLE Beginning at the right edge of any side, skip first 2 hdc of corner 3-hdc-group. With the RS facing, join color C with a sl st in next hdc. Ch 1, sc in same st as joining and in each of next 23 sts -- 24 sc; turn.

Row 2: Ch 1, sc in first st, sc2tog, sc in each sc across to last 3 sts, sc3tog, sc in last st -- 22 sts; turn. Repeat Row 2, until 4 sts rem. Next Row: (sc2tog) twice. On the next row, sc2tog and fasten off.

SECOND CORNER TRIANGLE With the RS facing, join color C with a sl st in first hdc to left of First Corner Triangle. Complete as for First Triangle.

THIRD AND FOURTH CORNER TRIANGLES Complete as for Second Corner Triangle.

BORDER With the RS facing, join color B with a sl st in any color C corner. Ch 2 (counts as hdc), 2 hdc in same st, work 25 hdc evenly spaced to next corner. (3 hdc in next corner, work 25 hdc evenly spaced to next corner) 3 times. Join with sl st in 2nd ch of beg ch-2. Fasten off.

Rnd 1: With the RS facing, join color A with a sl st in any corner. Ch 1, working 3 sc in each corner, sc in each sc around; join. Rnds 2 - 4: Ch 1, sc in each sc around, working 3 sc in each corner; join. After Rnd 4, fasten off.

 

Center Square With color A, ch 18.

Row 1 (RS): Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across -- 17 sc; turn. Row 2: Ch 1, sc in each sc across; turn. Repeat Row 2 to 7 -- from beg. Fasten off.

BORDER With the RS facing, join color B with a sl st in any corner. Ch 1, 3 sc in same sc as joining. *Work 15 sc along side and 3 sc in corner; rep from * around ending by working 15 sc on last side; join.

Rnd 2: Ch 1, sc in same sc as join; working 3 sc in each corner, sc in each sc around; join. Rnds 3 - 10: Rep Rnd 2. Fasten off after Rnd 10. Rnd 11: With the RS facing, join color C with a sl st in any corner. Ch 1, 3 sc in same sc as joining. Sc in each sc around, working 3 sc in each corner; join. Rnds 12 - 14: Ch 1, sc in each sc around working 3 sc in each corner; join. After Rnd 14, fasten off.

FINISHING Holding RS tog, sew through back lps on 3 side seams. Turn pillow top RS out, insert pillow form and sew hem side.
