3 Tie-Dyed Peace T-Shirts
Prepare the dye bath, following the package instructions. Begin with a washed and wet T-shirt.
- Wrap rubber bands around each cuff. Create a large circle in the center by gathering the fabric into a cone shape and wrap a rubber band around the base of the cone. Soak in the pink dye bath for 20 minutes. Remove the rubber bands and rinse the shirt until the water runs clear. Dry in the dryer.
- Following manufacturer's instructions, screen-print the Peace Sign onto the scrap fabric by positioning the screen on the scrap fabric. Squirt a 1/2 inch wide line of Fire Truck paint across the top of the screen. Drag the paint over the screen using a squeegee. Lift the screen and rinse it. Allow the paint to dry and heat-set with a dry hot iron.
- Iron fusible webbing to the back of the scrap fabric, cut around the design, remove the paper backing, iron the applique to the center of the shirt, and sew around the edge of the fabric using a straight stitch.
- Fold the T-shirt in accordion fashion. Wrap rubber bands around the folded shirt every 2 inches. Soak in the orange dye bath for 20 minutes. Remove the rubber bands and rinse the shirt until the water runs clear. Dry in the dryer.
- Following manufacturer's instructions, screen-print the peace sign onto the T-shirt by positioning the screen in the upper center of the shirt. Squirt a small amount of Recycle paint at the top of the screen in the center and at each end. Add Banana Peel paint in between the green paint areas. Drag the paint over the screen using a squeegee. Lift the screen and rinse it. Allow the paint to dry and heat-set with a dry hot iron.
- Wrap rubber bands around the hem and each cuff. Create a large target in the center by gathering the fabric into a cone shape and adding rubber bands an inch apart around the cone. Soak in the navy dye bath for 20 minutes. Remove the rubber bands and rinse the shirt until the water runs clear. Dry in the dryer.
- Following manufacturer's instructions, screen-print the peace sign onto scrap fabric by positioning the screen on the scrap fabric. Squirt a 1/2 inch wide line of Oasis paint across the top of the screen. Drag the paint over the screen using a squeegee. Lift the screen and rinse it. Allow the paint to dry. Position the peace sign inside the T-shirt, and sew around the design. Cut away the front of the T-shirt to reveal the design underneath.
- Repeat the screen-printing process with the OMG Orange paint and the star screen. Iron fusible webbing to the back of the screened star, cut around the design, peel the paper backing, adhere to the T-shirt using an iron, and sew around the edge of the star using a straight stitch.
